Chinese mobile phone with DRC.

**** NEWS FLASH ****

I merely came home from the DRC-lab visit earlier today, before I got wind of that the Chinese mobile phone vendor “Xiaomi” just now released a model  “Mi 6”, using the DRC for mobile phones, as discussed in todays earlier blog post.

It´s not available here in Sweden, other than by importing it directly from China, but You readers from other countries could perhaps help me with facts on how it is in Your country, is it possible to buy locally there?

Good value too as far as I can see, at about half the price of a similar phone from more well-known trade marks. Still nice specs.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, 6GB LPDDR4, UHD 5.15″ screen, large battery w 3,3Ah, wireless charging, two cameras, tele+wideangle on the back, Android Nougat 7.1.1. AND the wonderful Dirac-DRC!

When will we see/hear about DRC in LG, Sony, Samsung, Apple and others??

  1. Yep, custom in ear monitors without published frequency graphs. I’d happily buy a target filter set for my model if available. But I’d highly doubt my model would be available, since the universal IEM market is so much larger.

The second problem is D/A. My iphone has no D/A, no analog outs at all. So I’d be using the app with a series of 3-d party D/A converters, each with different frequency responses. Now those could all be measured and the two filter sets combined safely (IE this model headphone EQ + this model DAC EQ), but that just makes the whole issue more complex.

    1. I think – but don´t know for sure – that the vendors going into DRC in a mobile, wants to separate the markets mobile speakers, for nearfield use + CIEMs vs “real HiFi- speakers” needing custom measurements and roomcorrections. The mobile apps are probably going to be cheap, but only works with prefab filters, the much more expensive apps can make custom measurements and private filters. For the cheap mobile use You probably is happy with preset filters and low cost and dont need more connections than earphones and bluetooth to small speakers. Whereas a PC would be the normal base for the higher priced full apps, would have plenty of connections. And the really expensive solutions would be built into the amps, like Trinnov, Arcam, Denon and others. Lets see what happens in the fall, when I expect several of the players to announce their solutions and price strategy.

  2. Thats great! If available in US that might even tempt me away from apple. The only issue I see is Dirac tuning is only available for speakers in rooms. Not sure how I’d go about calibrating my CIEMs.

    1. If you mean CustomInEarMonitors?? I.e. earbuds/plugs/phones an article about that is planned, one of the DRC vendors is planning a mobile app both for iPhone and Android phones, where You buy the corrections for Your CIEMs for a few dollars. If You upgrade Your CIEMs You buy another correction, simple as that. I can not say which one and give more details at the moment. But I will be the first to do so, once its even close to official!

  3. Great I would love better sound in mobile, not only via earplugs. Nice specs and pretty phone to!

Cant find a dealer in Ukraine? Anybody knows?
